Millennials are forced to find new ways of navigating a networked global society. The challenge is to live with an open mind and open heart in a world which threatens to fall into financial and environmental ruin.

EXTRA is a celebration of artwork created by a complex and introspective generation of Artists.  “To be extra” is to be over the top, excessive, way too much.

Curated by WCU MFA Chelsea Dobert-Kehn, this exhibit features 19 Artists of diverse backgrounds and geographic location. Graduating students, young professionals, and instructors have been selected to exemplify this diverse generation, often underestimated, and dismissed.

 

EXTRA address subject matter indicative of the millennial condition. Social media and emojis are investigated as new forms of communication. Signs, objects, realities, and systems are reimagined into thoughtful and humorous alternatives.  Gender, sexuality, and interpersonal relationships are explored using perspectives reflective of changing categories for individual expressions. Political engagement is evident.
